DETROIT IN FOUR DAYS

Detroit in Four Days Day 1 � Morning

or at one of the nearby restaurants, such as Louie’s Ham & Corned Beef (p. 84) . � Afternoon Explore the ever-changing New Center and Milwaukee Junction, and don't miss the Motown Historical Museum (p. 56) , devoted to the music that put Detroit on the music map. Consider yourself a petrolhead? Go and see the Ford Piquette Avenue Plant, the manufacturer’s second historic plant (p. 52). Or more a technohead? Get down to Exhibit 3000 (p. 54) . Depending on the time of day, grab a coffee at Milwaukee Café (p. 92) , a cold beverage at Kiesling, (p. 93) , or a meal at Baobab Fare (p. 85) . � Evening Attend a show in Foxtown or a sport's match (p. 31) —great atmosphere guaranteed! Day 3 � Morning Stroll along the Riverfront before taking a cab to Grosse Pointe, where you can admire the tastes of Edsel Cranbrook Educational Community North of Detroit, this complex dedicated to art, design, and science is an architectural wonder. A place to visit in high season when the various houses are open to the public (p. 64) .

Discover Downtown (p. 18) starting on the banks of the Detroit River. Gaze skyward to admire the details of the skyscrapers, and explore the alleyways and art galleries. � Midday Devour a pizza or a Coney dog, two specialties that make Detroiters very proud (pp. 80 and 82) ! � Afternoon Take the Q Line to the Detroit Institute of Arts (p. 46). � Evening Make a beeline for Kamper’s (p. 101) to sip a glass of something and snack on tapas. You’re in techno city, so head to the TV Lounge club (p. 99) , for example. If that’s not your jam, catch live music at Aretha’s Jazz Café (p. 98) . Day 2 � Morning On Saturdays (and Sundays in high season), spending your morning at Eastern Market is a must (p. 36) ! Stroll around the market halls to discover the local produce and have a coffee at Germack (p. 91) where you can buy dried fruit, tea, and freshly roasted coffee. Follow our short tour of the neighborhood’s murals (p. 38) , and set out to discover even more! � Midday Grab a bite to eat at a market stall

Day 4 Head for Dearborn where you can spend the day exploring The Henry Ford (p. 70) which houses The Henry Ford Museum of American Innovation, Greenfield Village where buildings from all over the country have been reconstructed, and the Ford Rouge Factory, the only American automotive factory you can visit. It's easy to find a place for lunch while you're there. � Evening Take a look at what has become of the former Michigan Central station (p. 34) , then go for a drink and dinner in Corktown, where you’ll find some great breweries and distilleries (p. 90) .

and Eleanor Ford (p. 62) on a visit to their English-style mansion. � Midday Return to Midtown for lunch. � Afternoon Visit one of the district's museums: the Historical Museum or that dedicated to the history of African-Americans (p. 44) . Take the time to stroll around the shops at W. Canfield St. � Evening Time for some fine dining Downtown, in a restaurant such as Parc, Savannah Blue, or Table No. 2 (pp. 78–81) , or perhaps a wilder evening in a bar like D'Mongos Speakeasy (p. 98) or SPKRBOX (p. 89) : coffee shop by day, club by night!
